The collective brand consolidates a model rooted in and committed to the land, contributing to the structuring of the Penedès wine sector
Mas Vilella is the newest member of the Corpinnat collective brand, which, as of today, brings together 23 wineries committed to the land, quality, and excellence.
With this new addition, Corpinnat reaffirms its commitment to an open and inclusive model that helps ensure the survival of both the sector and the region. This approach is based on 100% organic grapes and processes, manual harvesting, entire vinification on the estate, long ageing, commitment to historical varieties, estate-owned vineyards or long-term contracts with a guaranteed minimum price for the winegrower, and annual external audits.
Since its inception on April 10, 2018, Corpinnat has progressively integrated the following wineries: Gramona, Llopart, Nadal, Recaredo, Sabaté i Coca, Torelló, Huguet de Can Feixes, Júlia Bernet, Mas Candí, Can Descregut, Pardas, Bufadors, Cisteller, Viader, Mas de la Basserola, Celler Kripta, Demost, Mas Bertran, AT Roca, Celler Mir, Torné & Bel, Juvé & Camps and, as of today, Mas Vilella.
Mas Vilella: the essence of a unique Mediterranean landscape
Mas Vilella is a historic estate located in La Bisbal del Penedès, 300 metres above sea level and overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, centred around a 16th-century farmhouse. The estate covers 20 hectares, 11 of which are planted with vineyards, set within a genuinely Mediterranean landscape of narrow terraces bordered by dry-stone walls, carob trees, dwarf fan palms, olive trees and almond trees. The vines grow in stony, limestone-rich soils that naturally limit yields, producing between 1,500 and 5,000 kilograms per hectare.
The project was launched in 1984 by Benjamí Jané and Maria Úbeda, Albert Jané’s parents, who has managed the estate for nearly twenty years. After establishing two wine projects in the DO Montsant and DOQ Priorat, Albert decided to settle at Mas Vilella in 2015. He now lives there with his children, Maria, Paula and Jordi, who are gradually becoming involved in the family project.
The family’s winemaking tradition dates to 1914, when Albert’s great-grandfather founded a winery in El Vendrell.
Mas Vilella’s corpinnats are distinctive and expressive thanks to the vineyard’s low yields and the ageing of the wines in amphorae, barrels and tanks. They convey the essence of the Mediterranean landscape. These are 100% estate-grown corpinnats, produced from organically farmed vineyards, carefully selected and hand-harvested in small picking boxes.
A further step for Corpinnat
By welcoming Mas Vilella, the first winery from Baix Penedès, Corpinnat strengthens its role in structuring a sector that not only strives for its own future, but also to protect the landscape, support local farmers, and promote the identity of Penedès sparkling wines.
“Every time a winery takes the step to join Corpinnat, the Penedès region moves forward too. Adding a new winery means adding hectares of vineyards that will be cared for and protected, ensuring a green and vibrant Penedès”, stated the President of Corpinnat, Pere Llopart.
The Corpinnat’s Vice President, Roc Gramona, emphasised the fact that Mas Vilella is the first winery from the Baix Penedès area to enter Corpinnat. “We widen and reinforce Corpinnat’s territorial representation, embracing the diversity of landscapes in the heart of historical Penedès”.
