We, the Associació de Viticultors i Elaboradors CORPINNAT-AVEC, publicly reiterate our opposition to the Urban Master Plan for the Sant Marçal-Cal Vies economic activity area in the municipalities of Castellví de la Marca, Castellet i la Gornal and l’Arboç, because it threatens an agricultural plain of great landscape and agronomic value, home to viticulture with considerable quality potential.

We believe that a logistics project of this magnitude, which the three municipal councils concerned have now asked to be revived, blurs the sustainable Penedès we deserve and adds no value to the region as a whole; on the contrary, it could open an irreparable wound that would mortgage the future of one of Catalonia's main historical wine-growing regions.

The member companies of CORPINNAT publicly give our support to the SOS Penedès Platform and the Centre d’Estudis del Paisatge Vitivinícola (CEPvi), which are calling on the Government of the Generalitat and the municipal councils concerned to withdraw this urban plan.

CORPINNAT likewise voices its opposition to the route of a new Very High Voltage (MAT) power line planned to cross the Penedès, causing serious damage to the wine-growing landscape. We call on the competent authorities to study an alternative to this project, and we join all initiatives launched to stop it.

Furthermore, given that the Penedès is currently drafting its Partial Territorial Plan, and that this plan should be guided by transparency and consensus with the region as a whole, we believe it makes no sense and is counterproductive for infrastructure projects such as the Sant Marçal-Cal Vies industrial estate or the MAT power line route to be processed in parallel while ignoring this process.

In this regard, we also call for the Landscape Catalogue to become, effectively and genuinely, a useful and binding tool for establishing the criteria for respect and protection to be included in the future Partial Territorial Plan.

The Penedès is a dry-farmed, organic wine-growing area and, therefore, we believe it is necessary to back initiatives that enhance the values that make it unique, not the opposite. The future of the Penedès necessarily depends on a model of land-use planning that is more sustainable, harmonious, coherent and respectful of the environment and present-day reality. The quality and uniqueness of our wines and sparkling wines, like those of all the world's great wines, undoubtedly depend on the environment and landscape in which they are born and grow, and that is why they must be preserved.
