HISTORY

A land bound to vines and wine for almost three millennia

CORPINNAT, THE SPARKLING WINE

THE HISTORY OF A WHOLE COUNTRY
The wineries that make up Corpinnat are heirs to a history forged in Penedès over almost three millennia.
A story that begins with the presence of vines some 2,700 years ago and gathers strength from the 18th century onwards, when the spread of vineyards transformed the landscape and consolidated a culture closely tied to the land and to trade. Since then, the vine has shaped not only the territory but also the identity and ways of the people who have lived here.

THE CRADLE

THE GREAT CATALAN WINE REGION
It was not until the 19th century that Penedès became one of the great driving forces of Catalan winemaking.
Booming exports and the ability to adapt to European crises placed our territory, for the first time, in an advantageous position within the country’s economy. But it was also a period of great transformation: the phylloxera crisis forced a rethink of the production model and opened the way to new varieties and new ways of understanding wine.
This metamorphosis culminated in the 20th century with the rise of sparkling wines made by the traditional method. The concentration of the sector and the consolidation of Sant Sadurní d’Anoia as its epicentre made it possible to sustain the winemaking model, preserve the landscape and project Penedès internationally under the Cava Designation of Origin.

RECLAIMING ORIGIN

THE BIRTH OF CORPINNAT
In the middle of the last decade, a group of wineries from the heart of Penedès began meeting around a shared idea: to work together to guarantee the highest quality of sparkling wines and to showcase our territory. We wanted to build a model that would protect Penedès not only as a landscape but also as a living territory. A model committed to the people who work the vineyards, guaranteeing growers a fair price, and to the environment, through 100% organic viticulture.
This commitment to the territory was joined by demanding quality criteria: 100% organic vineyards, grapes and winery, hand harvesting, winemaking entirely on the estate and a minimum ageing of 18 months to ensure the excellence and personality of our sparkling wines.

THE CORPINNAT DNA

A commitment to the territory, to people and to the consumer
In 2017, the Corpinnat Association of Winegrowers and Winemakers (AVEC) was established, made up at the time of the wineries Gramona, Llopart, Nadal, Recaredo, Sabaté i Coca and Torelló, and the process of registering the Corpinnat collective trademark with the European Union Intellectual Property Office began.
Corpinnat was born of a way of understanding wine based on commitment to the territory, to people and to the consumer. Demanding principles that define how we tend our vineyards, how we make our sparkling wines and how we help preserve the future of Penedès.
Committed to
a way of doing things

We restore the prominence of origin, dignify organic viticulture and champion hand harvesting, winemaking in our own cellars and ageing time as essential elements in achieving wines with identity and authenticity.
