The rather cool weather until mid-July suggested a general start to the Corpinnat 2024 harvest at the end of August, but this summer's heat has brought forward the start for the earliest varieties and has caused the final phase of grape ripening to be slower than usual.
This very week the harvest has slowly got under way for the earliest traditional varieties, such as Macabeu and Sumoll, and the presses at most CORPINNAT wineries have already started work to extract the best from every single grape.
Pere Llopart, head of Corpinnat's technical committee, pointed out that, although the gentle, steady spring rains allowed good budbreak, they have not been enough to leave behind the drought, which seems set to persist. This harvest is expected to be very healthy and of good quality, although yields will remain low, as in recent years.
Ton Mata, president of the collective brand, recalled the main values guaranteed by CORPINNAT sparkling wines: 100% organic grapes, 100% hand harvesting, 100% estate vinification, and fair prices and long-term contracts with supplying winegrowers. As set out in the internal regulations, this year CORPINNAT wineries will pay a minimum of 88 euro cents per kilo of grapes, although the average price is expected to exceed one euro again, as happened in the last harvest, when the average paid was €1.04
