On 21 November, four representatives of CORPINNAT met with Joan Gené – the new director general of INCAVI – who was accompanied by members of his team.

The meeting took place at INCAVI’s headquarters in Vilafranca del Penedès, where a shared willingness to work for the future of the Catalan wine sector was the common thread.

CORPINNAT put forward its demands, some of them long-standing, with the aim of seeing them advance as quickly as possible. These are:

- The implementation of the Catalan Wine Law (passed in 2020), its regulations and a single classification for all wineries, regardless of whether or not they belong to a D.O., with special emphasis on the categories of winegrower-producer, winemaker-producer, négociant, brand owner and cooperative member.

- Having their own entry in the Catalan Wine Register (RVC).

- The creation of aid for farmers, to make it easier for them to regraft their vineyards and recover historic Catalan varieties, which are generally proving more resistant than other non-native varieties to the effects of climate change on our land.

- The creation of soft credit lines for farmers who want to set up their own business and vinify their own wines.

- CORPINNAT’s presence at the various sector round tables.

- CORPINNAT’s inclusion in aid for the promotion of its sparkling wines or other aid aimed at the Catalan wine sector.

CORPINNAT sees the future of Catalan wine as one of strengthening the sector and protecting the territory. It considers it necessary to apply policies that help winegrowers both to commit to traditional varieties inseparable from the territory itself and to embark on the path of making their own wine.

It is important that the defence of both the territory and the people who shape it should be the backbone of the sector, and that the new generations of Catalan winegrowers should find the support they need from the administration to continue cultivating the land and making wines regardless of whether or not they are part of a D.O.

Both INCAVI’s management and CORPINNAT aim to keep working together to make progress and contribute to Catalan wine, and have agreed to hold further meetings to continue pushing together towards a better future for Catalan wine.
