The winery Mas Candí is now a new member of CORPINNAT after passing the two mandatory initial audits required to join this EU collective brand, whose aim is to enhance the prestige of the great sparkling wines made in the heart of the Penedès. Mas Candí thus becomes the ninth winery in the brand, joining Gramona, Llopart, Nadal, Recaredo, Sabaté i Coca, Torelló, Huguet-Can Feixes and Júlia Bernet.

Mas Candí is a small family winery located in Les Gunyoles d’Avinyonet, founded by young farmers with training in viticulture and oenology who farmed their grandparents’ vineyards and who, in 2005, decided to join forces to make their own wines, one of the core values pursued by CORPINNAT. Through a close bond with and commitment to the landscape, working rigorously with native varieties and recovering old ones, Mas Candí has become one of the most promising new wineries in the Penedès. The winery currently produces around 60,000 bottles a year (30,000 of still wine and 30,000 of sparkling wine) and currently has four cavas on the market: Cava Mas Candí, Segunyola (100% Xarel·lo from a single estate with 3 years of ageing), Indomable (5 years of ageing) and the rosé Prohibit.

This is the ninth winery to join the CORPINNAT project since the brand was officially launched on 10 April in Sant Sadurní d’Anoia. Since then, many wineries have expressed interest in joining, and some have already begun the process of passing the audits that will allow them in, as Huguet-Can Feixes, Júlia Bernet and now Mas Candí have done in recent weeks.

CORPINNAT is a collective brand registered in the European Union at the end of last year and open to all sparkling wine producers located within the territorial boundaries set by the brand. The CORPINNAT territory covers a geographical area of 46 municipalities – all those in the Alt Penedès and some in the Baix Penedès, Alt Camp, Anoia and Baix Llobregat – where, for geographical, geological, climatic and social reasons, native varieties have always been grown to make sparkling wines.

Likewise, all wineries seeking to join CORPINNAT must comply with or adapt to the brand’s rules of use, which set out, among other requirements, hand harvesting, certified organic grapes, the use of historic varieties – with particular emphasis on native ones –, the entire winemaking process on the estate, ageing of more than 18 months, a guaranteed minimum price for winegrowers with a gradual increase, and a commitment to rigour and self-discipline.
