Can Descregut joins CORPINNAT
Can Descregut, from Vilobí del Penedès, is formally a new member of the CORPINNAT collective brand as of today, after passing the mandatory audits. With this addition, the collective brand now brings together ten Penedès wineries producing great sparkling wines under demanding commitments of rigour and quality (100% organic grapes, hand harvesting, entire winemaking process on the estate, etc.). The brand, founded in April 2018, is currently made up of Gramona, Llopart, Nadal, Recaredo, Sabaté i Coca, Torelló, Huguet-Can Feixes, Júlia Bernet, Mas Candí and, as of today, Can Descregut. The general meeting of members of the Associació de Viticultors i Elaboradors CORPINNAT-AVEC, which owns the brand, approved the admission of Can Descregut on Monday, and the Vilobí winery today registered its withdrawal from the Regulatory Council of the DO Cava.
Can Descregut is a small family winery founded in 1992 in Vilobí del Penedès. It produced base wine for cava until 2005, when its owners, Arantxa de Cara (oenologist) and Marc Milà, decided to make wines under their own label, named after the Masia de Can Descregut, the farmhouse where the winery is located. With a production of 60,000 bottles a year (30,000 of still wine and 30,000 of sparkling wine), Can Descregut has 25 hectares of vineyards between Vilobí and Font-rubí, dominated by old vines of Xarel·lo, Xarel·lo Vermell, Macabeu, Parellada and Sumoll. In fact, the winery was a pioneer in the recovery of a historic variety such as Xarel·lo Vermell. The winery’s entire production is certified 100% organic, and its still wines are also made following biodynamic farming techniques. Both its still and sparkling wines follow minimal-intervention criteria (native vineyard yeasts, light filtration, low sulphite levels...) “seeking to express the character of the Vilobí soils, which provide minerality thanks to their rich gypsum content”, says Arantxa de Cara.

Can Descregut currently has two sparkling wines on the market which, as of today, are CORPINNAT: Descregut Reserva 2017 and Memòria 2012, a long-aged wine with more than 70 months of ageing. It also makes several still wines from Xarel·lo, Xarel·lo Vermell, Macabeu, Sumoll and Merlot. Marc Milà notes that the decision to join CORPINNAT reflects the desire to highlight the effort involved in the winemaking process, from vineyard to bottle, with 100% of the wines made on the estate.
CORPINNAT is a collective brand registered in the European Union at the end of 2018 and open to all sparkling wine producers located within the territorial boundaries set by the brand. The CORPINNAT territory covers a geographical area of 46 municipalities – all those in the Alt Penedès and some in the Baix Penedès, Alt Camp, Anoia and Baix Llobregat – where, for geographical, geological, climatic and social reasons, native varieties have always been grown to make sparkling wines.
