Celler Viader is the personal adventure of Eduard Viader. An agricultural engineer by training and an enthusiast by vocation, in 2009, aged just twenty-one, he set out to make his own sparkling wines.
For more than a decade, Eduard’s adventure took shape in a small cellar in the centre of Sant Sadurní d’Anoia until, in 2018, he discovered an old abandoned farmhouse surrounded by vineyards very close to Espiells: Can Rossell de la Llena. He knew at once that this was the place where his life’s adventure would continue to take shape. A restored farmhouse with sustainability as the winery’s cornerstone, and a determination to promote and enhance the sparkling and still wines of Penedès.
At Viader, grapes from the estate itself are vinified, as well as from neighbouring plots in north-eastern Penedès, an area of shallow clay-limestone soils that give the sparkling wines great ageing potential. All the sparkling wines are stacked, riddled and disgorged by hand, and cork-stoppered ageing is used for the longest-aged ranges, keeping alive the most traditional crafts of sparkling winemaking.
